Now you can go to the best Israeli sites... Get the latest news direct from Israel... Just click... and like magic the site is
translated to English. If Hebrew is your native language, just drop by the New York Times, click and the page is in Hebrew.
Targu@net is a specially designed web browser that enables the user to view English web pages in Hebrew and Hebrew web
pages in English. The program translates all the text of English sites to Hebrew and vice versa, while retaining the links, and
all the photos and other images in their proper locations.
The program uses a technology called Computer translation, which, although it is not as accurate and flexible as human
translation, has the great advantage of speed and immediate online results. The user will immediately see on the screen a
web page that gives an immediate draft translation of the original web site, ideal for a quick understanding of the gist of the
web site, specially if the screen is split in parallel columns, one showing the original web site and the other the translated
site.
Targu@net requires
- IBM computer or compatible - Pentium processor or equivalent
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or greater
- 32 MB RAM
- 15 MB of available hard disk space
- CD drive
- Mouse
- Color monitor
- Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, or XP.
Note: English Windows computers must have Microsoft’s Hebrew support loaded in order to see Hebrew on Hebrew web
sites and in the English to Hebrew translation. You will be prompted the first time you enter a Hebrew site to download the
Hebrew support free of charge. Please answer Yes to download and install the support. After that, Hebrew will be viewable
on all Hebrew sites.
Frequently asked questions:
q) How does its translation process work?
a)The web site to be translated if loaded through Targunet (which also allows you to
reach your favorite web sites), you click the Translation button, and the web site appears in the translated language.
q) Once Targunet translates a web page from English to Hebrew, can it then be saved offline in Hebrew?
a)Yes.
q) Can all web pages be translated?
a) Practically all, except for those with flash technology.
q) How accurate are the translations - does it depend on the subject?
a)Computer translation programs are available in different languages (ours is the only one in Hebrew), and the
translation quality of all of them is about the same, more
"gisting" (giving you the gist of the article) than quality translation. The advantage of computer translation over human
translation is its incredible speed, but it does not have the accuracy of human translation. The subject matter, specially if
there are many technical words, does have a direct influence in the accuracy of the computer aided translation.
q) Is it possible to add additional words and phrases to the dictionary?
Targunet does not include that feature. Its sister
program, Targumatik 2000, designed for businesses, does include that feature, and if a user has both programs, adding
words in Targumatik will automatically add them in Targunet.
q) Is it possible to download an evaluation version of the software?
There is no evaluation version available. The program is
available only in CD format, but upgrade files will be able to be downloaded free of charge from the web site now under
construction.
